In line with the desire of Edo State Governor, Godwin Obaseki, to entrench sustainable policies and programmes towards Making Edo State Great Again (MEGA), the Edo State Development and Property Agency (EDPA), has been statutorily transformed to adequately provide Homes and Estates, not only for residents of Edo State but also for interested persons across the country and even in the Diaspora.

To strengthen this burning desire, which includes developing estates, legally acquiring, and managing land, and other properties within or owned by Edo State, and for connected purposes, the Edo State House of Assembly has mandatorily repealed the EDPA 2018 Law. It has been replaced with the Edo State Development and Property Corporation (Repeal and Enactment) ESDPC Law 2022 as rightly Gazetted on March 23, 2023.

In other words, the former EDPA is now Edo State Development Property Corporation (ESDPC) for short.

This Law enacted by the Edo State House of Assembly in 2022 and assented to by the Edo State Governor, Mr. Godwin Obaseki, while altering the EDPA status from Agency to a Corporation, critically highlights certain areas as it relates to the ESDPC operations and functionality, especially within the context of institutional reforms, infrastructure development, environmental sustainability, tourism, and social enhancement.

This is important to the extent that the status change will help the Corporation to adequately meet its mandate, mission, and vision, as well as guide its general objectives.

The motivation engendered by the new law, name, and status change will go a long way to help ESDPC adopt digital evolution in line with the e-governance in Edo State and requisite production drive in developing modern and qualitative housing Estates, as presently being executed in the Emotan Garden City and Golf Mews, both in Benin City.

The character of the smooth operation of the Corporation is now strongly mixed with sensitive elements of efficiency, autonomy, and responsibility to service delivery within the legitimate satisfaction of all stakeholders.

In line with its statutory recommendation as envisaged by the ESDPC 2022, the ESDPC 2022 would enable advanced general interactions for the Corporation to realize its set mandate and corporate effectiveness toward meeting the demands of the MEGA Agenda.

This will enhance the Corporation’s responsibilities in the purchase, sale, lease, acquisition, or disposal of any real property in line with modern engagements of citizen involvement and inclusiveness as defined by the reality of times and by the Edo State Government.
