Egypt’s U-23 team head coach, Mario Rogerio Reis Micale, has called on his players to be more efficient in attack despite their 1-0 win over Mali in a Group B encounter at the TotalEnergy CAF 2023 U-23 Africa Cup of Nations in Tangier on Wednesday.

In the post-match press brief on Wednesday night, the Egypt head coach expressed his delight with gaining maximum points but also expressed concern with his team’s poor finishing in front of the goal, cafonline.com reports.

Micale also urged his team to continue working hard to improve their output as the tournament progresses

“Despite having talented strikers, we are still wasting many scoring opportunities. It is crucial for us to strive for improvement as we advance to the later stages of the competition,” the coach said.

Micale attributed their victory over a resilient and composed Mali side to their hard work and dedication, while also expressing his satisfaction with the win after being held to a draw in their first group-stage encounter against Niger.

Moving further to their last group stage match with Gabon which will be the decisive match to determine their fate in the competition, Micale promised better preparation.

“Every match in this tournament is challenging and requires a serious approach,” he said.
