The continuous downpour has left many homes in Uvwie flooded as the available drains are blocked with refuse.

At Jakpa and Ekpan, it was observed that some unscrupulous persons had worsened the situation by dumping refuse in the just-opened-up canals for easy flow of rainwater to stem flooding in the area.

One Mr. Ovie Prince, whose home was affected by the flood, stated that he had no choice, but to live with the flood water in his room.

“Some of my neighbours have temporarily relocated to the homes of their immediate families or friends, but I have nowhere to go. I have taken all my things above the floor. We really need help in this area,” he said.

Many other affected residents in the flooded area called on the Delta State Government to come to their aid, arguing that apart from the inconveniences, the flood situation also posed hazards for them.
