The Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Usman Alkali Baba, has reiterated his commitment to entrenching professionalism within the Nigeria Police Force (NPF) by emphasizing specialization and the appointment of trained experts to key positions in specialized sections.
In a statement signed by CSP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, Force Public Relations Officer, and made available via the Force’s Twitter handle in Abuja, the IGP said he would do this through sustainable promotion of specialization and fixing of trained experts to take charge of NPF’s specialized sections such as the Legal Section, Forensic Unit, the Cybercrime Unit, Public Relations Department, Gender Unit and Medical Services.
This, according to the statement, is paramount to ensuring that square pegs are fitted into square holes for efficiency and effective discharge of policing duties to the public.
The IGP highlighted several notable achievements under his administration, which demonstrate the NPF’s commitment to specialization and professionalism. These accomplishments include the expansion of the Cybercrime Unit, the establishment of specialist hospitals and acquisition of medical facilities for the Medical Unit, and the digitalization of the Force Legal Section and personnel records.
Others are improved aerial and marine operations, enhancements in the Police Animal Section, digitalization of the Central Motor Registry, and the establishment of the NPF Construction company to facilitate the construction and renovation of barracks and facilities, among others.
The IGP assured that the process of specialization and expertise development will be an ongoing and deliberate effort aimed at completely transforming outdated systems and practices within the Police with the ultimate goal of achieving full digitalization in the near future.
“This transformation will significantly enhance investigation and intelligence gathering capabilities, leading to more effective and result-oriented interactions between the Police and the public,” the statement added.
