The Uruguayan U20 side will today,Thursday June 8, 2023 battle the Israeli U20 at the Estadio Ciudad de La Plata at 6:30PM, for a spot in the Finals of the ongoing FIFA U20 world cup, in Argentina.
The match promises to be a thrilling encounter as the fixture is coming of the back of the 2-0 victory over USA by the La Celeste Olimpica in the quarterfinals of the competition at the Santiago del Estero on Sunday.
While their opponents against all odds defeated Brazil U20 3-2 in a famous victory as Israel came back twice to even the scores at 2-2 before Dor David Turgeman Netted a stunner in the first half of extra time to send them to this stage of the competition.
Marcelo Broli the coach of the Uruguayan side in an interview by Sportskeeda said, “We are all eying the ultimate prize and nothing short of that will quench our thirst now,” They will be expected to fight till the end as they have never lifted the trophy.
The Israelis will answer the looming question which is, can they carry on their fairytale ride in the competition to this semi-final clash? To which the coach Ofir Haim says, “We’ll maintain our stress free character. We have achieved our objectives and having nothing to lose. The pressure is on Uruguay.”
Ofir Haim’s side have scored 8 goals in the competition and have conceded 6 times while the South Americans have scored 10 goals and have conceded 3 times,
Uruguay has won four and lost only once in their last five games while Israel has won three times, drawn once and lost once in their last five.
The Uruguayans are expected to have the upper hand as they are said to be superior in individuality and local support as the competition is hosted by Argentina which is a neighboring South American country to Uruguay.
The winner of this game will face the winner of the other semi-final fixture between South Korea U20 and Italy U20 which will also hold in the Estadio Ciudad de La plata at 10:00PM on Thursday, June 8, 2023.
