The Super Falcons of Nigeria recorded a 0-0 draw against Ireland in their 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup final Group B match on Monday at the Brisbane Stadium, Australia.

The Falcons went into their final group stage match against an already eliminated Republic of Ireland needing just a point to secure their place in the round of 16, having gained 4 Points from their previous two games against Australia and Canada.

Ireland started the game on the front foot dominating proceedings early on and came close to scoring through their captain, Katie Mc Cabe who dragged her effort just wide.

The Super Falcons started in defensive shape against Ireland and later found their rhythm in the game and had the best chance of the first half as Barcelona star Asisat Oshoala came close to scoring the opening goal of the encounter but dragged her shot wide.

Nigeria started the second half on the ascendency and had more possession than they managed in the first half while also keeping Ireland at bay for much of the half.

The best chance of the game fell to the Falcons as the Irish goalkeeper pulled off an outstanding save to parry Ajibade’s header to the crossbar. The Falcons held on late in the game settling for a draw to ensure they got the point they needed to guarantee their qualification.
