Major-General Taoreed Lagbaja, Chief of Army Staff, has launched Operation Hakorin Damisa, aimed at putting an end to the long running killings and security challenges in Plateau State.

Major-General Lagbaja said the Army would also deal with criminals bands terrorising communities in the Mangu and other areas of Plateau State.

Lagbaja was in Mangu to kick-start Operation Hakorin Damisa IV, which is an emergency response under the Joint Security Task Force, Operation Safe Haven, to confront security challenges in the affected areas of Mangu, Riyom and Barkin-Ladi local government areas.

He directed troops to keep to the rules of engagement in the course of the operation and urged locals to cooperate with the troops and avail them with infoormation.

The special operation squad comprises of 300 troops with seven Mines Resistance Armoured Personnel Vehicles, Motorcycles, Buffalo Patrol Vehicles and Armoured Personnel Vehicles.

Scores of killings have been recorded in Plateau State of late with most of the attacks by being carried out by gunmen in the Mangu area.
