The Delta State Commissioner of Police, Wale Abass has harped on the need for synergy in combating criminal activities in the state.

CP Abass made the appeal in Agbor Area Command at Agbor, Headquarters of Ika South Local Government Area of Delta State.

The commissioner stated that he came to the town to appreciate all stakeholders for their support and collaboration with men of the Nigeria Police in the area.

The commissioner observed that the Federal Government of Nigeria had always advocated for community policing, saying that the idea would work well if the police got the cooperation of stakeholders.

He decried the fate of the present-day Nigerian Police, saying that the Inspector General of Police has lined up modalities to address the officers’ plights.

“We have a very enormous task to ensure the safety of lives and property of Deltans. We want Deltans to sleep with their two eyes closed and go about their daily activities without fear.

“We cannot do it alone; that is the reason we will continue to seek the people’s collaboration because security is everyone’s business. When you see something, say something.

“Our mission is to have a society devoid of crime and chaos hence we must have everybody on board.

“Recently, the police force has introduced community-based recruitment, a situation where an officer is employed, he is deployed to his immediate community,” he stated.

Also speaking, the officer in charge of Agbor Area Command of the Nigeria Police, Friday Idachaba, an Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP), said that the Agbor Area Command comprised of eight divisions and the communities were generally peaceful.

“The communities under my watch are majorly agrarian communities and are very peaceful.

“The crime rate in this area is very low. For the past five to seven months, we have not recorded any case of kidnapping, this is because of the state’s Commissioner of Police is proactive,” he stated.
