… enhancing the level of performance of talented athletes.

The Kaduna School Athletics Championship is an annual sports festival proudly hosted by Coach Felix Academics and Sports Foundation (CFASF) in partnership with the Youth Sports Federation of Nigeria (YSFON) targeted at discovering talented athletes from schools.

CFASF is ready to set another track record with The 6th Kaduna Schools Athletics Championships at the Ahmadu Bello Stadium, Kaduna from Friday, July 14 to Saturday, July 15, 2023.

With its YSFON Office at Ahmadu Bello Stadium, Kaduna, CFASF made the announcement through its official social media pages, FB: Coach Felix Academic and Sports Foundation, Instagram:cfasf_, FB: Kaduna Schools Athletics Championship.

The 2023 edition targets school students as part of CFASF’s objectives to enhance the level of performance of talented athletes and increase the rate of sports development in the region.

Since the inception of the Kaduna School Athletics Championship in 2016, CFASF has been awed by the number of grassroots sports talents that have been impacted, groomed, and prepared for the global stage.

Samuel Ogazi, Temitope Oluseun, and Peace Lekwot who are now doing exploits at the national level are all products of the previous edition.

It is relevant to mention that Temitope Oluseun, a product of CFASF, represented The Nigerian Customs and emerged winner of the women’s 10,000 meters final race in the track and field event at the just concluded Athletics Federation of Nigeria (AFN) World Athletics Championships Trials “Benin 2023”, which held at the Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium in Benin Benin City, Edo State, from Wednesday, July 5 to Friday, July 7, 2023.

In an exclusive interview with The Nigerian Observer, at the AFN Championships Trials in Benin, Temitope narrated “My name is Temitope Oluseun representing Customs and I just won the 10,000 meters women’s final race.

“It’s my first time running in this event and championship. My coach told me to compete because I have the endurance to do so and I believed my coach,” she said.

Speaking further, Temitope commended the Governor of Edo State, Godwin Obaseki, for providing functional standard sporting facilities at the Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium.

“The facilities put in place here are very okay and the environment is conducive. I really enjoyed my stay here in Edo State. I want to say a big thank you to the Governor, and I would love to gain your support in future time.”

While speaking to The Nigerian Observer correspondents, Temitope Oluseun’s coach, Coach Osiegbe Felix Onoriode, the founder of Coach Felix Academy and Sports Foundation, a World Athletics Licensed Coach, who is also the Public Relations Officer of the Athletics Coaching Association of Nigeria, said, “Temitope qualified to run the 400/200m at the national trials she only ran the 200m returning with a PB of 24.43s, she didn’t run the 400m because we arrive the venue the same day the 400m was to ran and due to long journey fatigue we exempted her from the 400m and concentrated in the 200m.

“So taking the 10,000 meters was for us to start our conditioning phase for next season just to gain cardiovascular endurance, and she eventually won the 10,000 meters,” Coach Felix remarked.

At this year’s edition, again CFASF has planned to make national stars out of local talented athletes by providing a platform for them to hone and showcase their athletic abilities.

Over 30 public and private schools in Kaduna will be participating in this year’s edition of the Kaduna School Athletics Championship. Schools from neighbouring states like Abuja and Jos have also indicated interest to participate, as young sports champions contend for mouth-watering prizes.

Five schools from the center of Nigeria, Abuja, have joined the contest for this year’s biggest school athletics event in Northern Nigeria namely:

1. Junior Secondary school, Kubwa 111 Abuja

2. Capital Science Academy ABUJA

3. Royal Family Academy, Wuye, Abuja

4. Government Secondary School, Zuba Abuja.

5. Tulip International School, Abuja.

The list continues to count as more schools come in.
