Former Super Eagles forward, Nwankwo Kanu, has resumed duties as the new Chairman of Nigeria Professional Football League side, Enyimba.

Nwankwo Kanu was recently appointed chairman of the reigning NPFL champions by the Abia State Governor, Alex Otti, Daily Post reports.

Kanu replaced Felix Anyansi-Agwu at the helm of the nine-time NPFL champions. Anyansi-Agwu was in charge of Enyimba for over two decades. Kanu, the former Arsenal forward met club officials on his first day in charge.
Earlier, the new Chairman of Enyimba International Football Club of Aba, Kanu Nwankwo, assured that he is determined to take the club to a higher place.

The former Super Eagles player gave the assurance at the Abia State Government House, Umuahia, where he informed Governor Otti of his arrival and readiness to assume duty at Enyimba.

He noted that the Aba-based club would witness great improvement under his watch and thanked the State Governor, Alex Otti for finding him worthy for the job.

Nwankwo therefore rallied great sons and daughters of Abia to come together to make the State great again.

Receiving Kanu in his office, the Chief of Staff to Governor Otti, Caleb Ajagba said it was the Governor’s love for excellence that made him to appoint the former international player as Enyimba’s Chairman.

The Chief of Staff urged Kanu to leverage on his previous achievements in the field of soccer to transform Enyimba to a greater place, reminding him that the eyes and hopes of people are on him to succeed.

Meanwhile, it was reported Monday, July 17, that Nigeria Premier League champions, Enyimba have announced the sacking of their head coach, George Finidi. The club disclosed the dissolution of the technical crew. The Peoples’ Elephant, in a statement signed by Sporting Director, Ifeanyi Ekwueme, however, directed all the coaches to re-apply for their positions within 48 hours.

Recall that Finidi guided the Aba giants to a historic ninth NPL title less than a month ago. The former Nigeria international was in charge of Enyimba for two seasons.

Kanu and Finidi were teammates during their playing days at Dutch club, Ajax Amsterdam.

Enyimba will participate in the CAF Champions League next season.
