The 18th ranked American, fought back from a set down to defeat Russian Mirra Andreeva 3_6 7_6 6_2 to reach the quarter finals for the first time since 2015.

The 16 year-old Russian who was aiming to become the youngest Wimbledon quarter finalist in 26 years, started the game in a spectacular fashion breaking the American’s serve 3 times in the opening set to claim the set 6_3.

The teenager started the second set in a similar performance racing to a 3_0 lead before Maddison roared to break back in the seventh game forcing a tie breaker.
