The new board of the Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) will be inaugurated today, Tuesday, July 25, 2023.

The new board has announced last week by the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) in Abuja, with Gbenga Elegbeleye as the head of the board, will serve a two- year term, Daily Post reports.

Other members of the the newly constituted NPFL board who will be entrusted with the responsibilities of overseeing the affairs of the NPFL are Mallam Mohammed Nasiru Sa’idu, Barrister Poubeni Ogun, Daniel Amokachi, Dr. Okey Kpalukwu, Mallam Suleiman Umar and Mr. Iorfa Dominic.

Barrister Danlami Ibrahim will serve as the secretary of the body, while Prince Davidson Owumi will serve as the Chief Operating Officer.

Meanwhile in other meeting, the NFF President, Alhaji Ibrahim Gusau, has canvassed for an abridged 2023-24 Nigeria Premier Football League season.

Gusau disclosed this in a meeting with the chieftains of the Nigeria Premier League board and the Club Owners Association at the Sunday Dankaro House at Package B of the Moshood Abiola National Stadium.

Gusau earnestly appeal to the league’s hierarchy to consider the suggestion.

“I have a personal opinion and that is support for the abridged league. I know most of you will be shocked, but that is my personal opinion.

“How many governments or clubs can sustain 38-matches on the road? I leave you to ponder and take a decision on that,” Gusau stated.

Enyimba won the 2022-23 NPL season after coming top at the Super 6 championship playoffs in Lagos.
