President Bola Tinubu and the All Progressives Congress Party (APC), being co-defendants, have closed their defence, Wednesday, in a matter instituted against them by the Labour Party (LP) and its presidential candidate, Peter Obi.
In the matter, counsel to Tinubu and the APC Party, called up Mr. Opeyemi Bamidele, a lawer and Nigerian Senator, as their star witness, said they had established their case by the attestations of that witness and would call no other.
Bamidele, a practicing lawyer in the United States, is Majority Leader of the Nigerian Senate. Giving evidence, Bamidele attested that there were no records of criminal proceedings or conviction of President Bola Tinubu in the United States.
He further said there was a shortfall of 10,929 votes in the number recorded for Tinubu in Kano state in the foregone presidential election .
Before then, the Presidential Election Petition had received and documented records of the Chicago State University in the US, relating to Tinubu, when Tinubu opened his defence in a petition file against his victory at the 2023 elections by co-contestant and Presidential Candidate of the Labour Party, Peter Obi.
At that hearing, the defence tendered documents to establish that Tinubu attended the said Chicago State University and subsequently graduated at there.
The documents tendered included an admission letter offered Tinubu by the university and a United States of America visa from 2011 to 2021.
Tinubu’s lawyers further presented the membership register of the Labour Party in Anambra State, in pursuit of the attestation that Peter Obi was not qualified to contest the 2023 presidential election on the platform of the Labour Party in the foregone election.
