Warri – Following a torrential rainfall which lasted for over two hours on Saturday afternoon, residents of Egbe Layourt in Effurun, Uvwie Local Government Area of Delta State, have sent a Save Our Soul (SOS) to the State Governor, RT.Hon Sheriff OOborevwori to come to their rescue as the bridge linking them to the Sokoh road has collapsed.

The residents, while appealing to governments both at the federal and state levels, however blamed the collapsed bridge on developers who are in the habit of blocking the canals in the layout thereby narrowing waterways.

A resident who craved anonymity, said, ” The problems we face in this country are caused by prominent individuals; just take this situation for example, the rich people will see canal that’s supposed to aid free flow of water, they will start sand filling it so that they can reclaim the land and build on it without putting into consideration the after effects of their actions.; and you know that, water must find its course. That’s what we are facing now, money is not everything,” he lamented.

The only access to the layout now is the Church of God Mission, Praise Centre Street along Jakpa Road. The road which was constructed last year, is also in a deplorable condition due to the shoddy job done by the contractor that handled the road project.

The entire Egbe Layout area has been thrown into total blackout due to the devastating effect of the flood around the high tension pole in the area.
