World No. 1 Carlos Alcaraz produces a brilliant performance to see off Jeremy Chardy in straight sets win to progress to Wimbledon second round, The Nigerian Observer reports.

The Spanish first seed put in a blistering performance to outclass Frenchman Jeremy Chardy 6-0, 6-2, 7-5.

The young Spaniard started the game in dominant fashion as he needed just 22 minutes to win the first set 6 games to love, leaving his opponent helpless on court.

He started the second set in similar fashion racing to a 5-1 lead before Chardy finally won a game. Alcaraz eventually took the set 6-2 in 32 minutes.

The third set proved to be a more even affair as the retiring Frenchman put up a fight to break Alcaraz serve for the first time in the game. Alcaraz eventually roared back to break back and eventually seal the match 6-0, 6-2, 7-5.

The 20 year old world No. 1 would be aiming for his second career Grand Slam title, after reaching the semi finals of the French Open where he lost to Novak Djokovic who went on to win the tournament.
