Spain have reached a first Women’s World Cup finals after edging out Sweden with a 2-1 victory in a drama filled match at Eden Park, Auckland, New Zealand.

Spain will now face either European champions England or Co-hosts Australia on Sunday, with the two sides facing each other on Wednesday.

Spain knew they needed something special to beat Sweden having gone winless in their last 11 encounter against the Swedes but started the game in a lacklustre manner as both team failed to stamp thier authority in the game.

Just when the game seemed destined for extra time, Barcelona teenage substitute striker, Salma Parrullo lashed on to a loose ball in the box to fire Spain ahead in the 81st minute of the game.

That goal seemed like the match winner, until Rebecka Blomqvist leveled the game in the 88th minute.

Spain rallied again and grabbed the winning goal almost immediately as Olga Carmona’s powerful strike restored Spain’s lead that ensured a first Women’s world Cup finals.
