Sweden have knocked out US women’s national team after a scintillating penalty shootout that ended in Sweden clinching the tie by a marginal 5-4 on penalties on Sunday at the Melbourne Rectangular Stadium, Melbourne Australia.

The US women’s team missed the deciding penalty twice as legendary player, Meghan Rapinoe missed her spot kick in what would be her last kick of the ball for the US women’s national team.

It marks the earliest exit for the US women’s team, who have never finished outside of the podium in the Women’s World Cup history.
