…tops Burna Boy, Davido, Wizkid

Afrobeat artists continue to shine across in all spheres, including awards nominations, with the name Rema not going out of conversation. The Edo-born multi-talented artiste just recently bagged three nominations in this year’s MTV Video Music Awards.

Rema (Divine Ikubor) was nominated in three categories – Best Collaboration alongside Selena Gomez for the song ‘Calm Down Remix’, Song of the Year, and Best Afrobeat with the same song.

The award ceremony is scheduled for September 12 at Newark, New Jersey’s Prudential Center, USA, at an event designed by MTV Base to honour the best in the music video.

Other Afrobeat singers who also bagged nominations in this year’s VMAs Best Afrobeat category include Ayra Starr (‘Rush’), Burna Boy (‘It’s Plenty’), Davido ft. Musa Keys (‘Unavailable’), Fireboy DML & Asake (‘Bandana’), Wizkid featuring Ayra Starr (‘2 Sugar’), and Cameroon-born singer Libianca for the song ‘People’.

Rema, who is considered by many as the new face of Afrobeats, is currently topping most musical digital platforms with several hit songs. He is currently on tour with singer Victony and fellow Mavin signee Crayon in North America.

Both Rema and Crayon were signed to Mavin Record owned by multi-talented record executive Don Jazzy back in 2018. Since then, both have been dropping banging records.
