Afrobeats has attained yet another highlight as Pheelz and Bnxn’s viral hit, ‘Finesse’, was used as the theme song for the unveiling of Chelsea FC’s new player and most expensive Premier League player, Moisés Caicedo.
The development was greeted with great enthusiasm by football and Afrobeats fans around the world as it points to the progress that African music, especially Nigerian music, has made over the years.
It comes as no surprise as the song, which was released in 2022 and garnered over 200 million streams on all platforms, had previously appeared as one of the theme songs in the gaming company EA Sports FIFA 2022.
Reacting to the announcement, the ‘Yolo’ crooner wrote via his official social media handle, “@ChelseaFC using my song to announce the most expensive signing in the EPL right now! BURST MY HEAD.”
This is not the first time as earlier this year, ‘Declan Rice’ by Oporoko Rhythm artiste Odumodublvck was used as the theme song for Arsenal FC’s unveiling of Declan Rice, also bringing more attention to Afrobeats.
