Nigeria’s FA Cup reigning champions Bendel Insurance Football Club of Benin, Friday afternoon arrived in Algiers, Algeria state capital in readiness for the reversed fixture of the 2023/24 CAF Confederation Cup preliminary match against Association Sportive Olympique de Chlef (ASO Chlef of Algeria).
Nigeria’s representatives who flew into the North African nation capital, Algiers, from Doha, Qatar aboard Air Algerie, touched down at the Algiers Houari Boumediene International Airport, Algiers at about 3:00 pm. The team departed Lagos on Thursday evening and made a transit in Doha, Qatar.
The Nigerian Ambassador to Algeria, Aisha M. Garba was on hand at the Airport to receive the team who were in the company of some officials of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF).
The Benin Arsenals who enjoyed the esteemed presence of Ambassador Aisha Gabar from the Airport straight to their hotel, immediately after their reception headed to the Saturday, August 26 match venue, Salem Mabrouki Stadium in Rouïba, Algiers, and had their light training exercise ahead the crucial match, rescheduled for 5:00 PM at the 12,000 capacity Salem Mabrouki Stadium in Rouïba.
Bendel Insurance FC are going into the game on Saturday with a 0 – 1 aggregate. Imade Osarenkhoe scored in the 41 minutes to give Insurance a vital home win advantage in the first leg of the First Preliminary Round game played at the Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium in Benin City, Edo State, Nigeria.
A draw in the match on Saturday will be enough for Insurance FC to advance to the second round of the CAF Confederation Cup preliminaries.
Insurance FC left Benin on Wednesday with their proprietor Governor Godwin Obaseki of Edo state at the Benin Airport to bid them farewell, promising more surprised packages and improved welfare for them.
