Canadian Hip-hop rapper and singer, Tory Lanez, who was found guilty of shooting colleague Meghan Thee Stallion, was on Tuesday sentenced to 10 years in prison by a court sitting in Los Angeles.

The rapper was found guilty last December on all three counts of assault with a semiautomatic firearm, carrying a loaded unregistered firearm in a vehicle and discharge of a firearm with gross negligence.

The “Take” crooner had been behind bars since his arrest in connection with the shooting incident which occurred in July 2020 at Hollywood Hills.

The judge in charge of the case said he had received over 70 letters in support of Tory before the sentence date, including that of fellow singer Iggy Azalea and the rapper’s young son.

Reacting to the sentencing in a news conference, Tory’s attorney, Jose Baez, said, “To get a ten-year sentence is extreme and just another example of someone being punished for their celebrity status and someone being utilized to send an example. And he’s not an example, he’s a human being.

“The law allows for Lanez to be out on bail pending appeal, so they plan to file a motion for bail in the case as they intend to appeal.”
