Delta State Oil Producing Area Development Commission (DESOPADEC) has embarked on evacuation of drainages at the Jakpa-Ekpan Road, Effurun, in Uvwie Local Government Area of the state.

The exercise, which began on Wednesday, saw men removing slabs from drainages, while others dug out dirt that had clogged the drains to create free flow of stagnated water.

A supervisor of the exercise on ground, who spoke on condition of anonymity, explained that the exercise was part of the efforts to abate the intensity of flood that usually caused gridlock and untold hardship for both road users and residents in the area.

Some business owners and residents in the area thanked the state government for embarking on the exercise.
