Hon. Goru Karo, the DESOPADEC Commissioner representing Udu, Ughelli South, Uvwie, and the Urhobos of Warri South, has commended the ongoing efforts to desilt drainages and clear canals within the commission’s jurisdiction, aimed at mitigating storm water flood risks.
He commended the Delta State Governor, Rt Hon Sheriff Oborevwori; Chief John Obukowho Nani, Chairman of the DESOPADEC Board; and Chief Festus Ochonogor, the MD/CEO, for their proactive involvement in the project.
This commendation came during his visit on August 25, 2023, to inspect the ongoing drainage work on Owhase Road in Owhase Community, Udu Local Government Area of Delta State.
Hon. Karo Goru underscored that DESOPADEC’s substantial intervention demonstrated a steadfast commitment to advancing the governor’s MORE agenda.
He conveyed his appreciation, stating, “I commend our esteemed Governor, His Excellency, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, for overseeing this extensive sanitation effort across DESOPADEC’s areas of responsibility.
“I would also like to express my gratitude to Chief John Nani, our chairman, and Chief Festus Ochonogor, our MD/CEO, for their swift actions in this ongoing endeavor.”
While addressing community representatives, he encouraged them to raise awareness about responsible waste disposal practices and the importance of keeping the environment clean.
He emphasised that maintaining cleanliness would conserve government resources, saying that DESOPADEC might not always be available for intervention due to its numerous other pressing commitments.
In the meantime, Francisca Atiga, the Director of Sanitation at the Delta State Ministry of Environment, who guided the board members through the drainage site, explained that both sides of the drainage system were constructed to facilitate the flow of water from Owhase Roundabout to a discharging point at Owhase River.
She advised residents to register with PSP waste collectors to dispose off their waste at approved designated sites, thus preventing the clogging of drainage systems.
Solomon Oshevire, a community representative, also extended his gratitude to the board member and the entire DESOPADEC Management for their commendable intervention work in Owhase Community in Udu and other areas under the Commission’s mandate.
