Aziegbemi assures  no rift anywhere

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Edo State on Tuesday disclosed its readiness for the upcoming September 2 local government election in the state.

The State PDP Chairman, Dr. Tony Aziegbemi, stated this during a press briefing at the state secretariat of the party in Benin City, the state capital, noting that campaigns would start from Owan West on Thursday, August 11.

Dr. Tony Aziegbemi expressed confidence in the party’s preparedness for the forthcoming elections as everything needed for the election has been put in place including the membership composition of the Edo State campaign council and the itinerary of the campaign itself.

“We have our campaign council in place, we will inaugurate them tomorrow (Wednesday) 12 noon and we are starting the campaign from Owan West on Thursday 11 am.

“We wish to state very clearly that we are ready for the elections and all the things we need to do as a party, we have done them, and all arrangements have been made.

“It is a case of “catch us if you can” in terms of other political parties as far as the 2nd of September elections are concerned,” Aziegbemi said.

Aziegbemi wished that Edo people will listen to PDP’s message of delivering good dividends of democracy to the people, the message of the fantastic job the Obaseki led-government is doing in the state, the message that PDP is the only party in the state that can deliver the dividends of democracy to the people.

He further assured the people that the election will be free and fair and urges the opposing parties to go back to the drawing board and prepare rather than spread propaganda about the elections.

“We are not any other party, we are PDP. We don’t write results at least not under the leadership of His Excellency, the Governor, if we wanted to write results, we won’t go through the strenuous activities lined up.

“You will recall that it’s only the PDP in this state that the Governor personally met with all the aspirants both the counsellorship aspirants and the chairmanship aspirants. His Excellency met with these people himself. He was going around the senatorial zones himself with these aspirants. When the candidates emerged, he met with them again. Is that someone you think will want to write results?

“In any case, it’s from the abundance of the heart the mouth speaketh. I’m not surprised, they would have done that, and they think every other person will do the same.

“I want to assure Edo people that we are ready for the election, and we expect them to be ready for the election instead of crying wolf when there is no wolf anywhere.

On PDP’s position with regard to the rift between Governor Godwin Obaseki and his Deputy, Philip Shaibu, Aziegbemi explained, “I can assure you that there is no rift anywhere.

“I think the Governor dealt with that yesterday (Monday) very extensively. You will recall that I gave an interview to the Nation Newspaper and I did say that the leaders of the party are not sleeping on this.

“We are looking at various options. You will expect that such rift will exist because even identical twins have different DNA. Also, when it comes to the ambition of the political association of human being, DNA can go haywire. So as a party, we think that we will control this, and I can assure you we have this under our control and there is absolutely nothing to worry about. The rift will soon be a thing of the past,” Aziegbemi added.
