Members of Edo State Professional Photographers Association (EDSPPA) will on Saturday, 19 August 2023 hold a photo walk and exhibition in Benin City to sensitize the public on the value and importance of photography in the society.

The photo walk/exhibition, which is part of the celebration of the World Photography Day 2023, will begin at the National Museum Ground, King’s Square, at 10am and end at the Victor Uwaifo Creative Hub, Airport Road, Benin City.

The World Photography Day is a special global event marked on 19 August every year to celebrate photography and its essence, as well as practitioners in the craft.

President of Edo State Professional Photographers Association, Mr Iyamu Lovely Osagie, told The Nigerian Observer in a chat on Friday that activities marking this year’s World Photography Day in the state began with a talk on photography at the Victor Uwaifo Creative Hub on Tuesday, 15 August by the Honourable Commissioner, Ministry of Arts and Culture, Tourism and Diaspora Affairs, Dr Uyi Oduwa Malaka, who also delivered a goodwill message from the state governor, Mr Godwin Obaseki.

Other seasoned professional photographers within and outside EDSPPA also gave a talk on photography, followed by a two-day Photography Masterclass at Constantial Hotel, Airport Road, facilitated by Rare Magic and Ncourage Photography.

Narrating the history of Edo State Professional Photographers Association, Osagie said, “Few years ago, a group of professional photographers thought of coming together as a body, under one umbrella to build and train personnel imbued with the spirit of service and development of photography and to foster unity, co-operation and mutual understanding among members.

“Today, the association has a membership strength of over 300. The association is duly registered with CAC. The association’s core values are integrity, diversity, philanthropy, transparency, professionalism and discipline, and meetings are held once monthly.”
