Pupils under the EKOEXCEL programme, a Lagos State Government initiative aimed at improving primary school education have achieved outstanding success at the 2023 National Common Entrance Examination.

The highest performing EKOEXCEL pupil scored 199, just 4 points lower than the best performing pupil nationally who scored 203. Over half of other tracked EKOEXCEL pupils who took the exam scored 70% or above.

The top three EKOEXCEL pupils, all girls, Ololade Ganiyat of St. Mary’s Convent Primary School, Ugwu Victoria of Enitan Primary School and Chima Mesomachukwu from Community Nursery & Primary School, Ijeododo achieved exceptional scores of 199, 191 and 185 respectively.

Ololade Ganiyat, the top scorer amongst EKOEXCEL pupils, consistently demonstrated academic excellence, topping her class for the past two academic sessions.

Ganiyat, also highlighted that the use of motivational cheers to inspire and encourage her significantly enhanced her learning and self-esteem over time. Her success serves as a testament to the effectiveness of EKOEXCEL’s methodology in nurturing talents while creating gender parity in the school environment.

The programme fortified its commitment to pupil success by providing comprehensive preparatory classes for pupils, enriched with essential learning materials. Unified mock examinations were conducted at the conclusion of each term offered students vital exposure to examination patterns, equipping them with the confidence and readiness for success.
