Manchester United‘s left-back Luke Shaw is reportedly ruled out for six weeks following a muscle injury he picked up in mid-week training.

This leaves a big void as back-up left-back Tyrell Malacia also suffered an injury which made him miss United’s pre-season tour of the United States and will rule him out for majority of the season. United are reportedly in talks internally to find a remedy for the situation, before the end of the transfer window.

According to Transfer Journalist Fabrizo Romano, the Reds have a list of potential left-backs available on the market to fill in the position; players on the list include Chelsea’s Marc Cucurella, Barcelona’s Marco Alonso and Tottenham’s Sergio Reguilon.

Marc Cucurella plays second fiddle to Ben Chiwell in the pecking order at Chelsea and has not settled in at Stamford Bridge since his €65million move from Brighton last year, speaking about his move and challenges playing for his current club said, “I play all my career in a [smaller] club so we don’t have this pressure,” Cucurella told ESPN in July.

“When you come to these big clubs, you feel this pressure and sometimes it is not easy to play with this pressure because you know you need to win every game.

“Sometimes you need to adapt as well to these situations, but this is part of life. Sometimes you have good years, bad years, but the most important thing is to learn and have energy to improve.”

Marco Alonso, who is considered by many to be the favorite, moved to Barcelona last season and is reportedly open to the idea of a move back to the Premier League.

The three contenders on United’s list are co-incidentally all Spaniards.
