Birthday remains one of the celebrations that many humans around the world continue to mark. For some people, birthdays must be celebrated every year – after all it comes just once a year. For some others, most years they just mark their birthdays on the calendar, only taking time to celebrate landmark birthdays. Celebrities are not excluded. This week, we present five Nigerian celebrities whose birthdays fall this week.

Nwankwo Kanu

Nwankwo Kanu is a former professional footballer who played as a forward. Kanu began his professional career at Heartland FC of Owerri, Nigeria, before going International to play for Ajax in Netherlands, Inter Milan in Italy, Arsenal, Portsmouth, and West Brom Albion of England, making over 406 appearances and scoring 98 goals.

Among his club honours are the Nigerian Premier League, Eredivisie, UEFA Champions League, Premier League, English FA Cup, amongst others.

He also represented Nigeria at the national level, where he won the FIFA U-17 World Cup, Olympic gold medal in 1996, and runner-up at the African Cup of Nations.

He is a two-time African Footballer of the Year and two-time BBC African Footballer of the year.

He was born 1 August 1976 in Imo State, Nigeria.

Jamilu Collins

Jamilu Collins is a professional footballer who plays as a left back.

He has appeared for Pomorac, Rjieka II, Krka, Sibenik and NK Istra, all in Croatia. He then went to Paderborn in Germany. He currently plays for Cardiff City. He has made a total of 230 appearances, scoring over 6 goals.

He has represented the Super Eagles of Nigeria, playing 25 matches. He has also won bronze at the African Cup of Nations.

He was born 5 August 1994 in Kaduna State, Nigeria.

Oluwunmi Mosaku is a Nigerian-born English actress best known for her role as Joy in the BBC drama series ‘Moses Jones’ and also ‘Vera’. She has appeared in ‘The Women of Troy’, ‘Call Jane’, ‘Philomena’, ‘Citadel’, ‘Womb’, ‘His House’, and ‘Loki’.

She won Best Supporting Actress at the British Academy Television Awards 2017 and Best Performance by an Actress at the British Independent Film Awards in 2017.

She was born 1981 in Kaduna State, Nigeria.
