The management of Bendel Insurance Football Club of Benin and Edo Queens FC, have organized a one-day seminar on new football rules for their players and officials ahead of CAF Confederations Cup preliminary engagements and Nigeria Premier League (NPL) 2023/24 kick-off.

The seminar which was held at the new Festival Hall in Government House, Benin had two retired CAF/FIFA Instructors Chuwkudi Chukwujekwu and Peter Edibi as facilitators who took their turns to dissect and take the players and officials through the rule book.

The instructors Chuwkudi Chukwujekwu and Peter Edibi in their exposition, charged the players particularly to internalize the knowledge gained and remain conscious of it in the field of play in order to avoid unnecessary infractions and consequences that could cost them.

Earlier, the Permanent Secretary, Edo State Sports Commission and General Coordinator of Bendel Insurance FC, Mrs Sabina Chikere in her address, implored the participants to take the lecture seriously so as to equip and acquaint themselves with the dictates of the new rules of the game ahead bigger challenges as they face foreign opponents and referees in the CAF Confederations Cup competition.

“On behalf of the Edo Sports Commission and Government, I welcome you all to this one-day seminar on the new rules of football.

“We decided to bring CAF and FIFA instructors to educate and expose us to the new rules and applications so that we don’t run short of it.

“We don’t want to see our players and those on the bench run foul of the law and when punished you start shouting ‘Oh this referee is biased,” Sabina said

“We want you to improve on your behaviour and reactions both on and off the pitch.” She advised.

According to Mrs. Sabina Chikere, the essence of the seminar for both Insurance FC and Edo Queens is to get them properly prepared for the new football season with the proper understanding of the application of the new rules that will guide them to avoid being booked by referees in football matches.
