The Edo State Government officially commissioned the John Odigie Oyegun Public Service Academy (JOOPSA), a state-of-the-art training center dedicated to fostering accelerated human capacity development and equipping civil and public servants in Edo with the necessary skills to excel in their roles and shine on the global stage.

The commissioning ceremony took place on Saturday, August 12, 2023, coinciding with the 84th birthday celebration of Chief John Odigie Oyegun, the First Executive Civilian Governor of Edo State.

In a remarkable stride of providing accessible healthcare services for those engaged in public service and professional development, the Edo State Governor, Mr. Godwin Nogheghase Obaseki created a sick bay within the JOOPSA facility to cater to the needs of the staff, trainees, and trainers at the academy.

Notable dignitaries such as the wife of the Executive Governor of Edo State, Mrs. Betsy Obaseki, Edo State Honourable Commissioner for Health Dr. Samuel Alli, as well as the Honorable Commissioner for Education, Mrs. Joan Oviawe toured the sick bay during the commissioning of JOOPSA facility. Mrs. Obaseki expressed her satisfaction with its modern amenities and basic healthcare provisions.

Mrs. Betsy Obaseki also lauded the collaborative efforts of the Edo State Primary Health Care Development Agency (EDSPHCDA) and the JOOPSA team, applauding their dedication to translating the concept of the sick bay into reality.

The JOOPSA sick bay is thoughtfully designed to offer a range of basic healthcare services to individuals within the academy’s community. Its primary aim is to provide timely medical attention for minor ailments, injuries, cervical screening, blood sugar/blood pressure checks, vaccinations, and emergencies that may arise during the course of training or work, as well as many other services.

This move not only saves time but also ensures that the healthcare needs of staff, trainers and trainees are promptly addressed, fostering a conducive environment for adequate learning, growth, and excellence.
