The Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC) says customers with prepaid meters will need to update them before November 2024, failing which they will be unable to recharge.
This implies that electricity subscribers who do not update their meters before the said date will lose access to power supply.
In a post on social media platform X, which was formerly known as Twitter, NERC stated that the meter updating process is free of charge.
NERC further said electricity Distribution Companies (DisCos) would issue free tokens to facilitate the updates.
“From November, 2024, you may not be able to recharge your meter. However, updating is easy and free. DisCos shall commence issuance of 2 free Key Change Tokens (KCTs) which will update your meter,” NERC said in the notice.”
It added:“The update will not affect the units in your meter nor will it make your meter run faster than usual.”
