A suit filed by the Allied Peoples Movement (APM), against Vice-President Kashim Shettima of the All Progressives Congress (APC), for alleged double nomination in the 2023 general elections has been struck out by the Presidential Election Petitions Tribunal, sitting in Abuja.

Reading the judgement, Wednesday, Justice Haruna Tsammani, Chairman of the panel, averred that an invalid nomination or double nomination did not qualify as a ground for disqualification in respect of the presidential election. Justice Tsamani said this was made clear in sections 131 and 137 of the Nigerian Constitution.

Justice Tsamani further held that Ibrahim Masari, a vice presidential placeholder nominee of the APC, could not necessarily be considered as a party to the petition because he was not a candidate and did not win the election.
