The Chairman, Egor Local Government Council, Hon. Eghe Ogbemudia, has stepped up the Operation Clean-up Egor campaign, charging residents and traders within the local government area to maintain a clean and healthy environment.

Hon. Ogbemudia gave the charge during the week while on tour of markets within the LGA to enforce compliance on Operation Clean-up Egor.

The Chairman visited Uselu market, Uwelu market, Useh and Egor markets.

According to her, “The tour would continue in order to achieve a maximum compliance which is in line with His Excellency, Governor Godwin Obaseki’s dream of ensuring a safe and healthy environment for Edo people.”

Hon. Ogbemudia, who went with a team of task force from the council, instructed roadside traders at Useh Market to move inside the market, urging them to take advantage of the free space inside the market. She stressed that roadside trading endangers both the traders and motorists.

The Chairman therefore advised that traders should desist from the act of roadside trading, as anyone caught in the act would be made to face the law, adding that task force would be on ground in marketplaces to ensure compliance.

Speaking to the traders, the Chairman said that it was no longer business as usual, urging them to imbibe good maintenance culture and shun the habit of Indiscriminate refuse dumping on roadside and in marketplaces. She emphasized that indiscriminate dumping of refuse is hazardous to the environment.

She noted that refuse not properly disposed could block the water channels and therefore result in flooding and called for all hands to be on deck to keep Edo clean and make it the envy of other states.
