The Delta State Commissioner for Water Resources Development, Hon. Isaac Wilkie, has charged Rural Water Supply and Sanitation Agency (RUWASSA) staff on diligence and seriousness in the discharge of duty.

Dr. Wilkie, who was accompanied by the Permanent Secretary in the ministry, Dr. Charles Diai, gave the charge on Monday during a courtesy visit to the Agency to familiarize with the management and staff to ascertain its challenges and strategize on how to move the agency to a greater height.

While pledging his readiness to work in harmony and synergy with everyone, he said that the office of the General Manager is as important as that of the Commissioner, stating that everybody is important irrespective of their duty post.

The commissioner admonished the staff to see themselves as a team driving towards one goal, he stressed the need to work with one objective which is to move the office forward by contributing their quota to make Delta RUWASSA stand out in Water and sanitation service delivery.

He said his office is always open to anyone with useful ideas that will move the Water and Sanitation sector forward and not for gossip and slandering of fellow colleagues.

Earlier, the General Manager of RUWASSA, Mr. Clement Adiotomre in his opening address commended the Commissioner for a well thought out visit to the Agency which will create a bond and conducive working environment for them to carry out their duties with commitment, knowing that the Hon. Commissioner is ready to listen to their challengers and proffer solutions to the challenges.

While soliciting the support of the Ministry of Water Resources Development, to acquire operational vehicles for the Agency and more funding and recruitment of staff for improved service delivery, he opined that its team is willing and always on ground to carry out their responsibilities if the working materials are made available to them.

Adiotomre highlighted the Agency’s challenges which include inadequate funding for rehabilitation of broken- down schemes, vandalization of water facilities, lack of operational vehicles and a depleted workforce due to retirement.

He assured that if all the challenges mentioned above are attended to, there will be speed construction and sustainability in all projects contracted.

The Director, procurement, Research and Statistics in the agency, Mr. Asore Ochuko, said the emergence of the commissioner would bring progress and succour to the water sector in the state.
