A common trend in the ongoing Local Government elections in Edo State has been the lateness of electoral officials and equipment to location in many of the 18 local governments in the state.

In Edo North Local Government Area, voters have been turning up in trickles with elderly people and pregnant women being given priority treatment.

In Idogbo Ikpoba-Okha, ballot snatching was reported.

Because there are no restrictions of movement, people have been coming and going without hindrance.

Most polling stations visited by our reporters witnessed low voter turnout and some observers said it appeared as if the seven political parties with candidates in the race did not properly mobilise their supporters.

At a few minutes to 12 noon, I Orhionmwon and Uhunwondode Local Government areas, voting materials had not yet arrived at polling booths.

In some of the polling units, electoral officers were yet to turn up.

Police units were on ground to provide security and the atmosphere was generally peaceful.

As of 9:51am in Oredo Local Government, Ward, polling unit 058, 059, 060, 061, 062, Ekehuan Campus, University of Benin. The electoral officials were not yet on ground.

There was no accreditation and voting in progress, but a few voters had turned up and were waiting for the process to kick-off.

A handful of political party agents including those representing Labour Party (LP) and the Peoples’ Democratic Party (PDP) we seen at polling stations.
