The Delta State Government has commended the humanitarian services of the Nigerian Red Cross to humanity and enjoined the society not to rest on its oars and also to step up its activities for the benefit of mankind.
The Delta State Commissioner for Health Dr. Joseph Onojaeme gave the commendation in his office when the members of the Nigerian Red Cross Society, Delta State branch paid him a courtesy visit, on Friday.
Dr. Onojaeme said that due to the important role the society plays in uplifting humanity, the state will continue to partner and carry them along in the scheme of things.
“I am calling on well-meaning and kind-hearted individuals and corporate bodies to support the society with the view to improving its human services to residents of the state” the Commissioner pleaded.
Earlier, the branch chairman, Nigerian Red Cross Society, Delta State, Chief Adolphus Anuagasi said they were in the office of the commissioner to familiarize and intimate him of their activities and seek more collaboration and support to the society.
He said that the branch, with the support from the British Red Cross, is currently intervening in four communities viz Elenchere, Omeligboma, Oko-Obiokpu and Oko-Anala communities in Oshimili South LGA where the capacities and resilience of residents are expected to be built amidst other support to these flood prone communities.
Anuagasi used the medium to request the inclusion of the Red Cross in the State Health Committee and the formal engagement of the Red Cross Volunteers through the branch secretariat during state functions to render paramedical/first aid and allied services during sporting events/activities.
