World number 1 and US Open defending champion Iga Swiatek has crashed out of the US Open after her 3-6 6-3 6-1 loss to 20th seeded Jelena Ostapenko at the Arthur Ashe Stadium in the fourth round of the tournament.
Ostapenko who remains unbeaten against Swiatek and ended the Pole’s 37 match wining streak and book a quarter final place against home favorite Coco Gauff.
The loss ensures Iga Swiatek will lose her World number 1 to Aryna Sabalenka after her 75 weeks run as the top ranked player.
Novak Djokovic also cruised to the quarter finals round after defeating unseeded Croatian Borna Gojo in straight 6-2 7-5 6-4 at the Arthur Ashe Stadium.
The Serbian tennis super star’s bid for 24th grand slam and a fourth US Open title continues as he reached a 57th quarter finals at the grand slam tournaments.
Djokovic will face American Taylor Fritz at the quarter finals stage.
