Nigeria’s Super Eagles will be competing against Les Elephants in the group stage if AFCON 2023.

The tournament will kick off with the hosts playing against Guinea-Bissau, while the Super Eagles’ first match is against Equatorial Guinea.

Ivory Coast’s coach Jean-Louis Gasset acknowledged that both the Elephants and Super Eagles may not be as formidable as before, but he cautioned his team to still be wary of their West African counterparts.

“Unfortunately, we are to meet Nigeria in our second game, Gasset said to ACLSports.

“Back in the day, the Super Eagles were phenomenal, but things have changed. However, they remain a solid side and could destroy any team in the competition, so you have to be careful.”

The highly anticipated Nigeria vs Ivory Coast match in Group A is set for January 18. The Super Eagles, who clinched their last title in 2013, have won the AFCON trophy four times, which is two more than the Ivorians. The Super Eagles are determined to secure Nigeria’s fifth title at the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations starting on January 13, 2024.
