The People’s Elephants anticipate making a mark on the continent as they go head to head against Wydad Casablanca in the African Football League (AFL) opener.

Both teams will battle a two-legged fixture, with Enyimba International playing host to the Moroccan giants in the first leg of the quarter-final of AFL at the Goodswill International Stadium in Uyo on Sunday. Kick-off time is 19:00.

The reverse fixture is billed for Casablanca on Wednesday, October 25.

Super Eagles coach Jose Peseiro is solidly behind the George Finidi led-team, and has shown support for them ahead of their clash against Wydad Casablanca.

It is pertinent to note that Enyimba are the only Nigerian club side among the eight clubs selected to compete in the inaugural edition of the AFL, and they have been pitched against Moroccan giants Wydad Casablanca.

Ahead of the first leg on Sunday, Nigeria coach Peseiro has sent his best wishes to Enyimba.

“Wishing all the best to Enyimba as they make their debut in the African Football League tomorrow. Good luck to all the players and staff,” Peseiro wrote on his X handle.

The People’s Elephants admission to the AFL resulted from their two Champions League wins in 2003 and 2004. They have failed to make an impression on the continent since their semifinal finish in the CAF Champions League in 2011.

However, the Finidi George charged boys are seizing this opportunity to make a statement in the AFL.

The winner of the encounter will face the winner of the clash between TP Mazembe and Esperance Tunis in the semifinal.
