…as Remo Stars Ladies exits defending champion, Robo FC

Following a thrilling grandstand play at the Betsy Obaseki Women Football Tournament (BOWFT) quarterfinal on Saturday, the Edo Queens, Bayelsa Queens, Delta Queens and Remo Stars Ladies have victoriously progressed to the semifinals round.

The 3rd edition of the FIFA accredited tournament, commenced on October 23, 2023 and will run through November 1, 2023.

The memorable quarter-final match saw Edo Queens proceed to the next round after squashing their opponents, Heartland Queens FC of Owerri with a 2-1 victory at the Western Boys Mini Stadium in Ikboba-Okha LGA.

Recall that at the second edition of the BOWFT in 2022, the Edo Queens also triumphed over Heartland of Owerri with a 4-0 win to qualify for the semi-final.

In another Saturday’s match at the Western Boys Mini Stadium, the clash between the tournament’s defending champions, FC Robo Queens and new entrants to Nigeria Women’s Football League (NWFL), Remo Stars Ladies FC ended 1-3 after 90 minutes of play in favour of the later.

In addition, in the quarter-final tie at the UNIBEN Sports Complex in the early hours on Saturday, Bayelsa Queens thrashed their rivals, Ekiti Queens 4-1 to qualify for the semi-finals.

The defining match at the UNIBEN Sports Complex between Delta Queens and Nasarawa Amazons FC ended 3-1 in favour of the Delta Queens.

The ongoing third edition of the tourney themed “Stop Gender Based Violence”, is aimed at highlighting efforts by the Godwin Obaseki-led administration to end gender-based violence in Edo State.
