Edo Queens Football Club of Benin in their opening match of the third edition of the Betsy Obaseki Women Football Tournament (BOWFT), thrashed Naija Ratel of Abuja 3-0, on Monday, at the Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium, Benin City.

The Edo Queens missed some scoring chances in the first half of the game as Naija Ratel’s goal keeper made wonderful saves before Edo Queen Chioma Olise, Jersey number 16, broke the deadlock at the 41st minutes of the game to put Edo Queens a goal ahead in the first half of the game.

At the resumption of the second half, Edo Queens exerted more pressure on their opponents from Abuja, and it resulted in the second goal scored by jersey number 22, Suliat Abideen, 50th minutes, in the second half of the game.

The third goal was scored by the captain of Edo Queens, Essien Emem, jersey number 30 in the 67th minutes of the tension soaked march.

It’s established that the best player of every match in the third edition of BOWFT will go home with a DSTV Decoder, courtesy of a Mega Dealer of Multi-choice, Tony Umerah, and the presentation by the first lady of Edo State, Mrs. Betsy Obaseki. The DSTV Decoder will be presented in all the 28 games to be played.

Winner of the best players of the march between Edo Queen and Naija Ratel football club from Abuja is Edo Queens player, Suliat Abideen, jersey number 22 .

In a post match interview, Betsy Obaseki expressed satisfaction and commended the Edo Queens for the victory over Naija Ratel in the first game of the tournament.

“I want to thank the girls for a good job and for defeating their opponents despite missing several scoring chances.

“I am satisfied with the officiating in the game, as the officials have showed high level of professionalism. I expect them to win this cup this year. We have a strong team and expect them to win,” Betsy Obaseki said.

Edo Queens coach Moses Aduku, stated that his girls will take one game at a time, noting that they have won this first march and they are going to strategise for their next game and ensure the concentration level of the girls remain high.

The best player of the game, Suliat Abideen thanked God for her performance, expressing satisfaction over the win, as well as the readiness of her team, the Edo Queens to win the BOWFT this time around.
