As part of strategy to curb the effects of the impending flood to the barest minimum, the State Government has called on critical stakeholders to work in synergy for the overall good of flood victims in the State.

The Commissioner for Humanitarian Affairs, Community Support Services & Girl Child Development, Ms. Orode Uduaghan stated this on Wednesday in Asaba during a courtesy visit from the Nigerian Red Cross Society, Delta State Branch.

She added that the Government has concluded the setting up of Internally Displaced Persons (IDP) Camps in the designated areas across the 3 senatorial zones of the State.

The Commissioner used the platform to appeal to critical stakeholders and community based Organizations to emulate the noble course of Red Cross Society of Nigeria as they engage in interplay during this period of flooding.

Ms. Uduaghan commended the Red Cross for their proactive steps in educating the people on lifesaving techniques as the flooding period draws near.

“We ask that you also bring the programs and activities you are currently doing for affected individuals into the IDP Camps. Thank you for being proactive and for your collaboration,” Orode added.

The Team Lead, Nigeria Red Cross Society of Nigeria, Delta State Branch, Charles Arinomor, stated that the Red Cross had been rendering lifesaving assistance since inception in the State adding that most recently, was the Branch’s unwavering commitment in providing relief materials to victims of 2022 flood disaster in the State.

Mr. Arinomor further stated that the Branch in collaboration with critical stakeholders (Movement Partners) in Humanitarian industry, is currently rehabilitating over one hundred (100) shelters and water points ravaged by the flood disaster.

The branch, according to him, were also distributing hygiene kits across communities in Patani, Bomadi, Isoko South, Ughelli and Ndokwa East LGAs in addition to cash voucher assistance to over 1,000 beneficiaries in the State.

Present at the meeting were the Ministry’s team, and the Executive members of Red Cross Society of Nigeria, Delta State Branch.
