Kenya is all set to host CHAN 2024 and AFCON 2027, and it’s a great opportunity for Kenya to showcase capabilities in hosting major football events.

The President of Kenya, William Ruto, has disclosed the football comment regarding Kenya hosting the African Nations Championship (CHAN) 2024.

President William Ruto nade the declaration in a cabinet meeting on Monday evening.

The Cabinet statement revealed that Kenya will host not only AFCON 2027, but also the African Nations Championship (CHAN) in September 2024, the CECAFA Under-18 Championship in November 2023, and the AFCON Under-15 (Pan-African Schools Football) CECAFA Region Championship in December 2023.

Kenya was initially selected to host the CAF 2018 tournament but were unable to do so, due to infrastructural circumstance. Nevertheless Kenya is determined to rectify the situation and demonstrate its capability after losing the opportunity.

The government of Kenya aims to utilize the 2024 CHAN tournament as means to be fully equipped for the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations, which will be jointly hosted by Uganda, Kenya, and Tanzania.

African Nations Championship (CHAN), is a biennial African association football tournament organized by the Confederation of African Football (CAF) since 2009 and first announced on 11 September 2007.
