Giuseppe Bruscolotti, a Napoli legend, expressed his disappointment with Rudi Garcia’s decision to substitute Osimhen during the second half of their 3-1 loss to Fiorentina on Sunday, Soccernet reports.
Napoli experienced their second defeat in the Serie A this season when Fiorentina came to the Stadio Diego Maradona. The team couldn’t take control of the match and conceded a goal in the 7th minute from Josip Brekalo.
Osimhen had a goal disallowed for offside after a VAR review in the 23rd minute, but he made up for it by scoring a penalty in stoppage time of the first half to equalize.
In the second half, Osimhen missed a good opportunity to give Napoli the lead, and shortly after, Fiorentina’s Bonaventura scored in the 63rd minute to make it 2-1.
Despite being behind, Napoli struggled to create chances and surprisingly, Garcia substituted Osimhen for Simeone in the 77th minute.
Napoli’s hopes of scoring were dashed as they let in yet another goal in added time, this time from Nicolas Gonzalez. In response to the loss, club legend Bruscolotti strongly criticized Garcia, expressing his belief that the decision to substitute Osimhen was a very poor one.
According to Napoli Magazine, Bruscolotti stated, “Garcia needs to come to his senses a bit, I see him in total confusion. The players don’t want to be in charge, but they want to make it clear that this isn’t going anywhere. Garcia must know that if he is losing, he cannot take away Osimhen.”
Following this, Napoli suffered their first loss against Bologna at the studio Dall’Ara last week, followed by their 2-2 draw against Genoa. The tension in Napoli’s camp is now evident with fans expressing their disapproval of Garcia’s decision to substitute Osimhen.
Napoli has reportedly reached out to former Marseille coach Igor Tudor as a potential replacement for Garcia. If the team doesn’t start winning consistently, Garcia’s tenure in Naples might come to an end soon.
