Sporting Lagos made a winning in their debut outing in the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) with a convincing 2-0 win over Gombe United in the match-day one game on Monday, at the Mobolaji Johnson Arena, Onikan, Lagos.
With the historic victory, the newly promoted Sporting Lagos treated its swarming Lagos fans to an unforgettable experience.

The first goal by Avenwenre Rivio from Christian Nwoke’s assist in the 42nd minute gave Sporting Lagos the lead. Clement Nantuam doubled the lead in the 71st minute.

Notwithstanding the United’s fighting and pushing for an equalizer, the scoreline remained the same.

However, a chance for Gombe United to reduce the deficit was lost when Sporting Lagos’ goalkeeper Christian Nwoke saved Mojeeb Odufeso’s penalty kick, six minutes into the added time.

In a post-match interview, Sporting Lagos head coach Paul Offor said he was full of joy at the outcome of the match, noting that it was an exceptional start for his team in their memorable game at the NPFL.
