The Rivers State Police Command has again arrested a man simply identified as Kolowale, an off-shore worker, on charges of rape.

The suspect, married with three children, was suspected to have raped a teenage girl at Ejekwu Street, Eneka, in Obio/Akpor Local Government Area.

This was confirmed by the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), SP Grace Iringe-Koko, who said the 42-year-old suspect was being detained while investigation on the matter was on.

It has however been discovered that the suspect is married with three children. He is a rig worker earning about N800,000 every month.

According to eye-witnesses, the suspect was arrested by the Human Rights Desk of the Rivers State Police Command headquarters, Moscow Road, Port Harcourt, following complaints by neighbours who the victim ran to after she was raped.

It was also gathered that the girl’s private part was examined by some of the women in the neighbourhood who ascertained the veracity of her claim. They were said to be shocked to observe the level of damage done to the girl’s private part.

It was gathered that the neighbours were moved by the strength of their findings, and quickly alerted the Police.

According to a reliable source, the result of the medical examination conducted on the girl confirmed that there was penetration in her private part.

In a related development, on Tuesday, October 17, the Rivers State Police command confirmed the re-arrest of a 22-year-old Raymond Isiodu from Obagi Community in Ogba-Egbema-Ndoni Local Government Area of the state for allegedly defiling an 11-year-old girl.

The Command Police Public Relations Officer, SP Grace Iringe-Koko, who confirmed this in a press statement, said the suspect was rearrested in the early hours of Tuesday, October 17.

“Following serious manhunt launched for the suspect by the DPO and his operatives, the suspect was arrested this early morning, October 17, 2023, and will be transferred to State Criminal Investigation Department (SCIID), Port Harcourt for further investigation.”

Meanwhile, reports there are indications that life imprisonment may be involved under the Child Rights Law of Rivers State,2004, Section 31,(i,ii) upon conviction of an Adult raping or defiling a minor.
