The Super Eagles of Nigeria began the 2026 World Cup qualifiers Group C Match Day 1 game on a shaky note on Thursday evening as they were held to a disappointing 1-1 draw by Lesotho at the Godswill Akpabio Stadium in Uyo.

The game saw Lesotho take the lead as Motlomelo Mkhwanazi beat goalkeeper Uzoho with the Crocodiles’ first shot on target in the 56th minute.

Nigeria needed a huge response, and it arrived in the 67th minute when Semi Ajayi powered home a header off another fine Iheanacho corner-kick to hand the home team the equaliser.
