The maiden Edo State Head of Service (HOS) football tournament has been scheduled to kick off on Wednesday, as preparation by all categories of civil servants in the state is in top gear.

Initiated by the Edo State Head of Service, Barr. Anthony Okungbowa, the football tournament is designed to promote social interactions and physical health among public servants across various Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs) in the state.

According to the organisers, eighteen teams will be participating in the football tournament which is expected to kick off by 3pm at the Western Boys High School Mini Stadium, Benin City.

Programmed to be played on a knock out format, the HOS football tournament will climax in the second week of December 2023, at the Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium.

Government House football team is among the eighteen teams registered for the tournament. Other teams include Edo State Sports Commission, Ministry of Physical Planning, Housing, Urban and Regional Development, Ministry of Health, Office of the Auditor General, Electricity Regulatory Commission and ICTA.

Others include EDOSUBEB, Edo State School of Health Technology, Edo State College of Agriculture and Natural Resources, Edo State Public Building and Meaintanance Agency, Ministry of Mining and Energy, EDSOPADEC, Edo State Fire Service, Edo State College of Nursing, EDOGIS, Ministry of Agriculture and Natural Resources and Procurement Agency.

The opening match will see College of Agriculture take on EDSOPADEC by 3pm at Western Boys High School Mini Stadium, Ikpoba Hill, Benin City.

The winner of the tie will face the Ministry of Health on the 17th of November at Western Boys High School Mini Stadium for a place in the second round against the Government House team on the 22nd of November, 2023.
