Operatives of Edo State Police Command have arrested 26 irregular migrants from Cameroon and Burkina Faso.
Twenty-four of the migrants, 16 males and eight females, are Cameroonians, while one male and one female said they are from Burkina Faso.

The Public Relations Officer, Edo State Police Command, SP Chidi Nwabuzor, said the migrants were arrested during a hotel raid following credible intelligence received by the DPO of Jattu Divisional Police headquarters.

SP Nwabuzor disclosed the migrants were arrested at Afua village in Uzaure, Etsako West Local Government Area of Edo State.

“Upon interrogation it was discovered that they could not effectively express themselves in English language, the little they could do was to identify their own country and that is how we were able to know the numbers from each country.

“They confessed that a certain young man brought them to Nigeria through the Cameroon border,” SP Nwabuzor said.

He further explained that the 26 irregular migrants would be properly investigated, profiled and handed over to Nigeria Immigration Service.

However, a man who identified himself simply as excavator operator said he brought them into Nigeria to join in the excavation contract he got as he is a Nigerian who had lived and worked in Cameroon.
