Nigeria as a nation has been facing difficult times as citizens are finding it hard to endure the economic hardship they are facing due to the unfriendly economic policies implemented by our leaders.
Leadership style embraced by successive administration in Nigeria have not favoured Nigerians but rather, it has benefited them as the polices implemented have made life unbearable for the people.
If Nigerians are faced with just the challenges of the economic policies alone, that would have been better but they have other issues like crime and criminality to contend with as the people now live in perpetual fear sleeping with both eyes opened.
Our leaders makes promises to check Crime and criminality but such promises are always never kept as the activities of criminals across the country have become a thing of grave concern to the people.
Security agencies across the nation seems to be confused as various security heads each time promise to keep the nation safe but failed in their promises as the incident of crime and Criminality keeps re-occuring on a daily basis and not all are documented.
Investigation revealed that perpetrators of crimes in Nigeria allegedly walk free on our streets due to the failure of our criminal justice system. Our system of government is also to be blamed and Nigeria is almost becoming a jungle where rule of law are not effectively implemented by our leaders as justice can allegedly be bought.
Crimes and criminality is now the order of the day as security agencies continue to work hard to bring culprits to book but most times the innocent suffers, like the case recorded in Edo State where an innocent family is still under police custody despite investigation which exonerated them.
The injustice on the Osabuohien family in Edo State is worth mentioning in this writeup, to draw the attention of Nigerians, security agencies and those in authorities to the issues as their rights have been violated.
The murder of one Mr. Destiny Omozuwa who is popularly known as DJ still sends fear down the spine of relatives, loved ones as the case is still under police investigation.
The said DJ was murdered at his rented apartment at No. 24 powerline Street, off Okabere Road in Ikpoba Okha Local Govt. Area of Edo State on the 19th of August 2023.
The Landlord of the property one Mr. Friday Osabuohien was arrested as first suspect in the murder case despite reporting the incident to the police. His son Osasu Osabuohien was also arrested as both were taken into police custody on the 20th of August 2023 around 8am, a day after the sad event. A relatives of the deceased person (name withheld) was arrested for questioning too.
According to investigation, the family of the deceased accused Mr. Friday Osabuohien of killing their brother and son because he previously had a dis-agreement with the late Destiny Omozuwa which led to a notice to quit the property.
An eyewitness and a son to the arrested landlord Mr. Precious Osabuohien said he was at home the morning of the incident and saw four boys suspected to be cultist who carried dangerous weapons with which they carried out the deadly act causing pain, sorrow and tears in the community.
According to him “I saw four boys through my window carrying assaulted weapons, they attacked DJ and i recognized the boys. They live in the neighborhood and have been causing trouble in this area for long. I suspect they are cultist”.
Mr. Precious Osabuohien quarried the arrest of his father while the culprits and perpetrators of the crime are yet to be arrested despite informing the police of what truly happened on that sad morning.
“It is normal for landlords to quarrel with their tenants and that doesn’t mean that the landlord will now be involved in killing the tenant as accused by the deceased family” he said.
A police inspector who doesn’t want his name in print said police investigation shows that the killing is cult related. “Investigation is still ongoing but however we have discovered that the killing is cult related. Rival cult group clashed in the City and the fight has been on for over a week before Mr Omozuwa was killed.
“It has not yet been established if the deceased belongs to a cult group as investigation is still on and the landlord and his son are still under our custody and they will not be released until investigation is concluded.
“The body of the deceased has been deposited at the Central Hospital mortuary in Benin City pending conclusion of investigation while Mr. Friday Osabuohien and his son are still in our custody while we search for the killers”.
This case is worth mentioning because it is almost three months now, the landlord and his son are still in police custody and they have been denied bail even when investigation shows that these people are not the killers. Several protests by landlord in the community fell on deaf ears.
The information given by the star eyewitness Mr. Precious Osabuohien is helping the police in there investigation because it’s the fact of what happened in that faithful morning. Its wrong for the police to continue to deny Mr. Friday Osabuohien and his son Osasu Osabuohien bail while they remain in custody for months as this violate their fundamental human rights.
We are bringing this issue to public notice, calling on concerned Nigerians, security agencies to come to the aid of these innocent family who are being punished for a crime they never committed. We are writing this story for people to know that innocent faces injustice on a daily basis in Nigeria for a crime they didn’t commit.
Since the star eyewitness Mr. Precious Osabuohien gave vital information that has helped the police in their investigation, his life has been under threat by some unknown persons who have threatened to kill him for interfering in the case.
As at the time of this story, the whereabouts of Mr. Precious Osabuohien is yet unknown as he has gone into hiding for the safety of his life. We call on security agencies to ensure protection of his life and that of his family while justice prevail in this matter.
